No Surrender' is the first print made by Tracey Emin at the new Counter Studios in her hometown of Margate, Kent. The lithograph is closely linked to her recent paintings. Emin articulates the joy and suffering that is intrinsic to human existence, from the often fraught territory of sexual relationships, to the physical trauma of abortion, and the recent passing of her mother. There is an uninhibited energy to Emin's new works, as she powerfully inscribes emotional turmoil through a freer yet assertive form of gestural figuration. Focusing on her own body as a conduit for her feelings, she connects with a history of expressive figuration in art, from the moving realism of Käthe Kollwitz to the modernist angst of Edvard Munch or the heightened sexuality of Egon Schiele’s female subjects. Emin's 'game-changing' solo show 'A Fortnight of Tears' at London's White Cube gallery received widespread critical acclaim earlier this year. Emin's new solo exhibition 'An Insane Desire for You' runs at Art Projects Ibiza until 1st October 2019. Whilst, her major exhibition at Musée d'Orsay, Paris has also just opened 'The Fear of Loving' in which the British artist has selected drawings from the museum's collection, rarely presented to the public, bringing them into dialogue with her own works, until 29th September 2019. - Counter Editions
